August 2016 - Excitement Brewing In the Columbus Ohio Logistics Industry!

Columbus, Ohio....Paving A New Way In Transportation!

As recently reported in The Columbus Dispatch on August 18, 2016, the USDOT Smart City grant benefits awarded to Columbus will not solely be focused on alternative transportation for humans.

Speakers at a meeting held by the Columbus Chamber's Columbus Region Logistics Council presented the possibility of developing smartphone apps to aid in directing truck traffic, data sharing and the testing of remote-controlled tractor-trailer truck "platooning" for the region's logistic businesses!

Truck platooning is smilar to a truck convoy except the platoon of two or more trucks is connected electronically through direct short range communications that bring the trucks within close following distance of approximately 30 feet.  The process reduces the aerodynamic drag considerably and increases fuel-efficiency up to 20%.  The trucks constantly maintain a communication link that allow the share of data and action.  If the lead truck's collision avoidance system activates its brakes, for example, the following truck(s) will do the same.

Testing for this exciting project would take place between the Rickenbacker Intermodal Logistics Park (home of Hyperlogistics) and the Columbus Morse Road area.
